Want to maximise your competitive edge. Sport performance is generally regarded to involve 4 aspects, physical, technical, tactical and mental. While most athletes realise how important the mind is to sport success, few devote much energy to mental training. Richard teaches why you should, and more importantly, how to mentally train.
Richard Shanahan BA (Hons), MSc. is a Dublin/Meath based Sport Psychology practitioner. He has consulted with professional and amateur athletes, teams and coaches from a broad variety of sports such as, club and inter-county Gaelic games, Premier division League of Ireland soccer, Boxing, Shooting, Martial Arts, Golf, Show Jumping, Motocross, Tennis, Badminton and Athletics Richard completed his Psychology degree in Dublin Business School and holds a Master's degree in Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology from University of Ulster, Jordanstown. He also holds qualifications in Training and Education (NUI Galway), Addiction Studies (NUI Maynooth) and Hypnotherapy (Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy).
He is a member of the Psychological Society of Ireland and the PSI Division of Sport, Exercise & Performance Psychology.
Sporting Background
Richard started practicing martial arts at an early age and by the time he turned 21 he was a 2nd Dan Black belt running his own club and was a regular member of the Cork Tae Kwon-Do Black belt team. He is an experienced skydiver, having completed over 800 jumps. He was a member of the Defence Forces competition team that won the National Accuracy Championships. He was also a member of the Defence Forces Freefall Parachute display team. Richard is also an accomplished marksman and has regularly competed at Brigade, Command and All Army level shooting competitions.
